Perspectives on Engine Modeling

Course Purpose

This course discusses the role computer modeling plays in the engine development process. You will gain an understanding of analysis problem definition and planning, tool selection, model construction, calibration, application and data presentation. You will learn techniques for integrating the most appropriate modeling tools into an engine design and development project.

Course Objectives

  • Learn an effective framework for using and assessing computer modeling tools and procedures
  • Learn how to select the analytical tools most appropriate for any given engine design/development project
  • Understand the capability, application and limitations of the various classes of engine analysis tools
  • Understand the complementary use of experiment and analysis
  • Appreciate the significance of data format and presentation
